JD at 4 months

May 30, 2012. Justus' 16 week birthday. Oh we've come such a long way in 4 months.

* Justus found his hands and loves to "hold" his own hands. So precious!

* Love all of the little laughs that are happening lately. Aunt Kristin is the best at making him laugh.

* JD likes to try to stand and those little chubby thighs are so adorable. I like to sit him on the Boppy in front of me and watch him practice holding his head up....and he does a pretty good job!

* Lots of rolling over! I usually find JD on his belly at the end of nap time.

* And lately he's been doing some "high flying" on his belly - head up and feet up.

* There's more hair on his head. I just noticed that this morning. It's a soft, light brown and straight (so far!). There's a cute calic in the back middle. After one nap time last week, Bryce and I discovered some crazy hair action going on. I don't know if you can quite tell in the picture but it was sticking straight up on top.

* Lots of drool everywhere! He's always dripping or blowing bubbles or both. The front of his onesie is usually wet.

* JD went on his very first hike on Memorial Day. Bryce and I, with the baby and dog in tow, headed off to the park. We hiked for an hour around the water and JD did pretty well in the Baby Bjorn carrier; he eventually fell asleep.

* Nights were pretty good for awhile. Then last week he regressed to feeding every 3-4 hours. Mom's opinion of this new development: yuck. Hopefully we're back to a good schedule soon. Maybe it's a growth spurt?

* Those little fingers are all the time grasping and pulling things to his mouth. And his toes stay all curled up. If you put your finger by them, they'll curl around it.

* Justus watches the dog now. His eyes will follow Parson around the room.

* Lots of little gurgles. The other day, he was laying on his floor mat and happy-gurgling up a storm. When I went to check on him after about 15 minutes, there was a trail of bubbles down his chin and neck. So funny.

* If I put a toy on his belly, he'll grab it, maybe wave it around a bit, and then bring the toy to his mouth.

* Bryce and I might be a little bit partial, but we agree that Justus is pretty much the cutest baby ever. :-)

On Needing Him

I need you Jesus, to come to my rescue
Where else can I go?
There's no other Name by which I am saved

Capture me with Grace
I will follow You

Oh. my. goodness. How long will it take, how many times will it take for me to learn that I cannot do it on my own. I desperately need Jesus. I NEED Jesus.

need: the fact or an instance of feeling the lack of something; a requirement; necessity or obligation; extreme poverty or destitution (World English Dictionary)

My life without Jesus . . . I definitely feel the lack of Him.
He is a requirement to living this Christian-life.
A necessity. An obligation--I am bound to Him and cannot make do without Him.
Without Him, I am in a place of extreme poverty and destitution.

Probably for the one-hundredth time, I am re-realizing that I need Jesus. All of Jana's valiant efforts are not enough. I cannot conjure up goodness or try hard enough to make my life work.

He is necessary to me.

necessary: true under . . . all possible circumstances; determined to be true by its meaning, so that its denial would be self-contradictory; essential, so that without it its subject would not be the entity it is; always yielding a true conclusion (logic definitions, World English Dictionary)

Jesus is true under all possible circumstances.
Jesus is determined to be true simply by His meaning/being, so that denying Him is self-contradictory.
Jesus is essential, so that without Him I would not be the person He made me to be.
Jesus always yields a true conclusion.

I need Jesus.

In the spring . . .

Our home in the springtime.
I think this is my favorite time of the year for outside pictures.

The Parsonage. Our little spot.

Our new camera does an "assisted" panoramic shot.
Pretty cool, huh?

A Tired Story

True story.
From when I was deep in the throes of new-baby-no-sleep tiredness.
I got up late one night (early morning?) to feed a crying baby, yet again, the every-three-hour cycle that never ended. And I thought the door to our bedroom was open, but Bryce must have closed it. We have a mirror on the back of the door. As I started to walk through what I thought was an open door, I saw a person approaching me and my brain told myself that someone was in our house. I startled and backed up quickly (who knew I could move so fast) and made a very scared sound--so scared that Bryce came flying up out of bed to put his arms around me. My brain immediately righted itself and I realized that it was only me in the mirror, but my heart was beating fast nonetheless. Yes, myself in the mirror scared me.
It was funny in the morning.

I wanted to remember that so I thought I would post about it here. :-)
And hopefully someone gets a chuckle out of it.

In other news, THIS ARTICLE is a must read.
Amen, sister.

JD is 86 days old

Justus Daniel is 86 days old . . . 12 weeks old . . . 3 months old.
Life with him is just a blessing.

I'm loving . . .

All of the smiles.
When he wakes up happy from a nap and just smiles at me.
His "kick time" - when he kicks like crazy for 30 - 45 minutes at a time.

The little giggles (or something that sounds like that) when I tickle his belly.
Smooshy thighs. Enough said.

The way his hair is growing in and sticks up a little on top.
Brown eyes.
Big eyes.

When he sleeps for 8-9 hours at night (which is more often than not now).
Current nickname: Buddy.
That he got to spend an afternoon with Great-Grandma Lois while my mother and I went shopping.

Kissing his little feet and watching his toes curl.
The way he looks at me when I'm nursing him.

Giving him a bath - loves the bath, hates the getting dried off and putting on lotion part.
Watching him spend time with Grandpa and Grandma Eberly.

A Bit of Breezeway Cleaning

Sometimes it's amazing what a bucket of bleach water and some scrubbing can do.
A few weeks ago, I tackled our super dirty breezeway.
Little did I know that the mud spattered walls were actually white:

Ahhhhh. So much better.
I decided the room needed a bit of color and decor (what room doesn't?).
So I added a printed scripture in a little nook, using a bulletin board that I already had on hand.

Jesus said to Zacchaeus, "Today salvation has come to this house . . ."
I thought a capitalized "Salvation" and a switch to "home" (a warmer word) was appropriate.
Just the message that I want to see when walking inside those doors.
The right perspective for our home.
